West Highlands Way - 150km treck
This is the adventure of 4 friends walking 150 km only with a backpack, a tent and dried food. Since the first moment, you feel happy because you have managed to put 10 days of life in a backpack of 50L. The important things to take are summed up in: the big smile, the desire to discover and my three friends! Freedom is only need 5 clothing, freeze-dried food, a tent, anti-mosquito , water bag, the camera and the harmonica =) TRAVEL with two eyes, two legs, two ears in amazing landscapes completely different each day!
INTO THE WILD
Arrival: Glasgow
Day 1 : Milgavie to Drymen
Day 2: Drymen to Rowardennan
Day 3: To Inverarnan
Day 4: To Tyndrum
My TIPS after the adventure:
- The most important: before starting, you must have trained for a month to do trekking carrying weight in the backpack (approx 10 kg). It's 30-35 km per day each stage, and personally, for not having trained enough I had a painful knee injury the last few days.
- Never forget the walking sticks! They amortize very much the weight of the backpack especially in the ascents and descents.
- What to eat? in sports shops they sell all kinds of freeze-dried food (pasta, lentils, rissotos, chocolate muss, etc) and I also carried many Asian noodles in envelopes. There are only one or two places to shop again along the way. And a lot of nuts and almonds!
- The shower? if you find it hard to stand cold water like me, you can in some stages pay a small amount of money to use the showers of some campings. Some lakes are very attractive but be careful ! because many are full of very toxic algae!
You can find the other tips on the official WHW website =).
The most important thing? keep the smile always, enjoy the sunrise and the sunset with a little break and surround yourself with people who bring you happiness and mental strength, the real strength.
