ALSACE (countryside tour)

Part French, part German, 100% Alsatian. Here the candy-coloured towns and villages look as though they've popped up from a children's bedtime story, the gently rolling countryside, striped with vines, idyllic, full of centuries-old traditions and good food (bretzel, beer, munster cheese, flammenkuch!).

HoHnecK : the house in the mountains

HUNAWIHR: wine fields. The village between Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé is built on the sides of a narrow valley, slightly downstream of the Alsatian wine route. Its setting, amidst vineyards and beautiful half-timbered houses, makes it one of the most beautiful villages in France

Where eating good specialities?

LE GAMBRINUS.

In a warm and picturesque atmosphere, Christelle and Stefan open the doors of their 16th century winegrower's house to you. In each room, antique furniture and antiques typical of the region invite you to take the best "tarte flambé" ever (the Alsacian typical pizza-like speciality) baked in the wood..

Halfway between the medieval dwelling for its decor and the authentic tavern for its food, Le Gambrinus, is an essential place for any Alsace lover.  My secret: you have to ask for " Friesengeist " (It is an burned alcohol and the rest you have to discover it by yourself. But here is a short video of how it should be drunk! -->)

Le caveau du VIGNERON

A beautiful place that reminds me the small Italian patios, the waiters are adorable. You can try specialties such as "spaetzle" (Alsatian pasta, similar to gnocchis). Spätzle is the short name for "sparrows". This name is due to the fact that when the spätzle are cooked and put on a plate, it looks like a sparrow's nest (bird nest).

The three castles of Haut-Eguisheim, Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr (winners of most beautiful France's villages!):

Hartmannswillerkopf War MEMORIAL Between German-France borders --

is a pyramidal rocky spur in the Vosges mountains. The peak stands at 956 metres  overlooking the Rhine valley. At Hartmannswillerkopf stands a national monument of World War I for the fighting which took place in the trenches here.

TAENNCHEL: The Taennchel Massif, not far from Ribeauvillé, is one of the most magical places in the Haut-Rhin. The giants, titans and fairies seem to have come to play with the rocks that take strange shapes, being the target of many legends and energy source pilgrimages
